| Amrûndil Born to a minor noble of Gondor, and once holding another name, the lord now known as Amrûndil set off for the wild lands of the East several years before the War of the Ring, leaving nothing more than a brief letter of farewell to his family. After some time spent wandering far in foreign lands, Amrûndil built a small home near the inland Sea of Helcar and settled there. About this humble structure a town arose. From the start the town was named Ashford, for its location on the banks of a large but fordable stream, whose waters were often darkened by the ashes of nearby forests - burned by the native Easterling farmers to clear the land for growing food. The townsfolk of Ashford have always been comprised mainly of those Easterlings of Rhûn who are peaceful tradesman, farmers, and other honest folk of the land. Yet even a handful of Dwarves have abided there from time to time. The founder of Ashford, Amrûndil was given his name by the townsfolk, for though he had come from the West, a stranger in their lands, he was respected and loved by the community, regarded as a wise and insightful leader. As raids by the more warlike Easterling tribes were a constant threat to the peace of Ashford, Amrûndil ordered a wall to be built for the defense of the town and Ashford soon became a refuge of the few good peoples of the East, a hold-out against the forces of the Shadow. During the War of the Ring, Easterling warriors pillaged the nearby village of Urnis, killing every adult and leaving the children to starve. By happy chance, folk of Ashford came across the village in time to save most of the children, and the people of Ashford have taken them as their own. Thus, Ashford is currently home to many orphans, who are most commonly referred to as the Children of Urnis. One of the greatest attractions of Ashford is an inn of high repute and quality. At any time the lower tavern is filled with travelers from many lands of many peoples, all telling of their adventures and the goodness of the tavern’s wine, brought in from nearby Dorwinion. Amrûndil is truly a champion of those oppressed Easterlings that wish only to live in peace. Some say he has the ability to “see through” their actions and read the thought of their hearts, and it may well be true, as Amrûndil has shown himself to be a wise and able lord. Amrûndil is also different among Men for his reverence of the Valar, particularly the King of Arda, Manwë Súlimo. Learned in the lore of the Elves, Amrûndil knows the Valar for who they are, and Amrûndil is a artful speaker and teacher of their virtues. Amrûndil is a skilled diplomat in times of peace, and an able leader in times of war. His uncanny ability to see into the hearts of Men, and his skill in persuasion has often diverted disaster before it befalls his city. Amrûndil and the people of his city became heroes after the War of the Ring, as they bravely withstood the Easterlings hordes even in the face of the destruction of most of their city. News of their defiance of the Enemy made its way even to the ears of King Elessar, who sent what aid he could for the rebuilding of the city. Dwarves of the Iron Hills also offered their services, and within Ashford’s walls now stands a grand hall made of stone called Urnis – a home for the orphaned children. Ashford has much to do in the way of regaining the quiet peace and simple charm of old, but it is still regarded as a welcome place of rest to any who enter the lands of the East… Amrûndil (Friend of the East) Race: Man (Dúnedain) Racial Abilities: Adaptable (+2 to Willpower), The Dominion of Man (+1 Courage), Skilled (extra skill picks) Attributes: Bearing 12 (+3)*, Nimbleness 8 (+1), Perception 10 (+2), Strength 6 (±0), Vitality 8 (+1), Wits 12 (+3)* Reactions: Stamina +2, Swiftness +3, Willpower +6, Wisdom +7* Order: Loremaster, Noble Order Abilities: Expertise (Valar), Vala Virtue (Manwë Súlimo, +2 to Insight and Observe (Spot) tests, and +1 to Wisdom tests) Advancements: 16 Skills: Armed Combat: Clubs (staff) +4, Debate (Negotiate) +10, Inquire +5, Insight +12, Inspire +8, Intimidate (Majesty) +4, Language: Sindarin +6, Language: Westron +10, Lore: Group (Dúnedain) +3, Lore: History (Elves, Men) +7, Lore: Race (Elves, Men) +6, Lore: Realm (Gondor, Rhûn) +6, Lore: Valar (Manwë Súlimo) +10, Observe (Spot) +5, Perform (sing) +3, Persuade (Charm, Oratory) +14 Edges: Charmed Life, Elf-friend, Eloquent, Foresighted, Honor’s Insight Flaws: Code of Honour (enjoy only the company of his Lady), Dull-Eared, Duty (aid the oppressed) Health: 8 Courage: 5 Renown: 8 Gear: Staff, Broad Ford estate Special: Amrûndil has Reading the Heart as a constant magic ability. *: Favoured attribute or reaction |
